WALZ’S EDUCATION CRISIS: MINNESOTA STUDENTS FALLING BEHIND
Tim Walz’s leadership has pushed Minnesota’s schools into crisis. Once a national leader in education, the state is now falling behind, and students are paying the price for his failed leadership.
Under Tim Walz’s failed leadership, our students continue to fall further behind as the achievement gap continues to grow.
While Walz spent billions of dollars on a bill he promised would improve child literacy, just half of Minnesota students are now proficient in reading.
- Under Walz, reading proficiency is down 16%, math proficiency is down 17%, and science proficiency is down 23%.
- Minnesota fourth graders’ reading proficiency fell below the national average for the first time in history.
- While students across the country struggled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, test scores in Minnesota fell more sharply than in the rest of the country.
- Elementary school students in Mississippi, now perform better on national reading tests than their peers in Minnesota.
- Minnesota, ranked sixth in the nation in the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s education quality rankings before Walz, fell 13 spots to nineteenth during Walz’s tenure.
